Tau Yu Bak (braised Lamb In Soy Sauce)

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 500 g lamb (with fat)
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dark soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 4 garlic heads
  • 1 star anise
  • 4 cm cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup water

Recipe

  • 1 season lamb with marinade overnight.
  • 2 heat heavy-based saucepan over med-low heat.
  • 3 put in marinated lamb to brown. add in whole garlic pods, cinnamon, anise and cloves. pour in 1/2 amount of water and cook covered 5-8 minute.
  • 4 add in dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, sugar and salt. add remaining water and simmer until gravy is thick and meat tender.
  • 5 add water if sauce is too thick.
