Vegetarian Times Meat Lovers' Pizza

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 45 mins Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 pizza crust (12- to 14-inch, freshly made or commercial)
  • 1 cup canned tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon italian seasoning
  • salt
  • fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, divided
  • 4 ounces veggie crumbles (soy ground meat)
  • 2 links soy sausage, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cups shredded lowfat mozzarella cheese or 2 cups soy mozzarella cheese
  • 12 slices soy pepperoni
  • 6 slices soy canadian bacon

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 450°; prebake the fresh pizza crust if using, for 3-4 minutes; remove from oven, and set aside to cool slightly.
  • 2 make the simple seasoned sauce: combine the tomato sauce, onion, oil, italian seasoning, salt, and pepper; set aside.
  • 3 make the “meat toppingâ€?: heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a big skillet over med-high heat; add the soy ground meat and sausage links; saute for about 3 minutes, or until hot and slightly crispy.
  • 4 using a spatula, remove the meat from the pan; add the remaining 2 teaspoons oil; saute the onions for 3 minutes, or until translucent; add in the tomato sauce and stir; remove from heat.
  • 5 spread the tomato sauce over the crust; top with the ground meat, sausage, cheese, pepperoni, and canadian bacon slices.
  • 6 bake for 13-15 minutes, or until the cheese melts; remove from oven and serve.
  • 7 for vegan use a vegan soy cheese.
